This year’s theme is Social Entrepreneurship: Shifting Power Dynamics. Nearly 800 Forum delegates will gather at Saïd Business School, University of Oxford to explore how social entrepreneurs access, navigate and influence power dynamics in their approach to generating change in the areas they work and the wider world. Speakers for 2009 include Mary Robinson, 2008 Nobel Peace Prize Winner, Dr. R. K. Pachauri; Canadian advocate for indigenous rights Chief Judith Sayers; Charles Leadbeater, UK Government advisor and leading global authority on innovation and creativity; and Raghda el-Ebrashi, a leading social entrepreneur who is pioneering a new approach to community development in marginalized neighbourhoods of Cairo. Session topics will explore: - Whether the current financial climate provides an opening for socially responsible investing and how new modes of finance can overcome the affects of the economic downturn. - How social innovation subverts traditional organisational power structures and in doing so drives forward positive social change. - How social entrepreneurs develop creative solutions to overcome widespread problems concerning health, agriculture and education in Middle Eastern and North African communities. - The role female social entrepreneurs play in challenging political bodies and redefining social structures. - How online communities and mobile technologies are spearheading local action for change on a global scale and what this means for social entrepreneurs’ worldwide influence and impact.
